Starting A Business – What Steps Should You Take First – Part 1

When I started my business I looked at many items and hyped up make money now type things and found most were not what they said they were. I finally found the products I wanted to sell and signed up with the company. So now I'm ready to start selling my products right! WRONG. You must do more research.

Q1: What else do you need to research?

A1: What type of ownership are you going to use? There are several types such as sole owner, partnership, scorporation, corporation. You should research them and find which will work best for you. Depending on what type you choose to use determines what state agencies with which you will need to file.

A1: One thing about partnerships you MUST DO is ask yourself will your partner actually DO THE WORK! I tried several partnerships only to find out that my partners talked a good game but when it came to results there was always an excuse as to why something was not done. Needless to say those partnerships are no longer in existence. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself if they are already making excuses for small things what will happen when a deadline MUST BE MET. No the odds are they will not get better at handling responsibility.

A2: What business name are you going to use? If you are using an assumed name such as jbf enterprises you need to register your assumed name with the state. In Illinois you have to register the name and put an ad in the local newspaper and run it for five days this will cost a few dollars and may vary. If you are using your real name you do not need to do this.

A3: You need to find out about sales tax. If you are doing an online business you may need to charge tax for items sold in your state but not in other states. DO NOT skip this step, if you do not collect tax and you were suppose to be collecting tax, you could LOSE the business you worked so hard to create. You will charge the customers the tax so PAY the government. You may also get a tax exemption on some of the items you buy for the business. If you are making a product, and buy a switch to go into the finished product the switch purchase may be eligible for a tax exemption. Ask your local tax agency they have great information and don't mind answering your questions. If you have an actual store then you will need to collect sales tax from everybody.

A4: I recommend a separate bank account for your business. Shop around there are different fees for different things such as credit card transactions, low balance, check fees, money transfer service charges and many more. One reason for a separate bank account is it makes tax time a whole lot easier. Another reason is It also makes it harder for you to take money out for personal use because you have to stop and think about it when you have to use a different checkbook. With the business and personal accounts together it is far to easy to say I'll pay it back later.

A5: Get some good accounting software and put everything in it. This makes tax time much easier. It should have a report manager and this can tell you many things like customer information, inventory and how much your spending on advertising and other controllable expenses. We tend not to look at the whole picture. We see $ 5 a week as not bad for advertising but at the end of the month we look at $ 20 dollars a whole different way. We begin to ask if we got our moneys worth. Remember a $ 1 here a $ 1 there adds up and a weekly or monthly report can shock you as to how much money you are actually spending.

A5a: The accounting software also helps keep track of tax deductible items. For instance rent of office space ex. I rent and my computer is in my apartment so I can deduct part of the rent. Same can be said for my phone if I use it for the business. My cable internet can be deducted as well as a percent of my utilities. Other items can include gas for the car, oil changes etc … Keep your receipts!

A6: I used an accountant at tax time no not h & r block or some service like that but an actual accountant. Talk to your friends and neighbors and find out if they have someone they use and like. No they're not that expensive I had my taxes done for about $ 110 dollars which was cheaper than when I had my personal taxes done the year before.

The Order of Things – What Happens in a Kundalini Yoga Class?

“Keep the teachings as given. Each kriya is whole unto itself, a perfect jewel that acts to create a flow. [Kriyas] are perfectly designed sets meant to produce predictable and subtle impacts on the total Self.” ~ Yogi Bhajan

Kundalini Yoga is more than just exercise to stimulate the body. This yoga moves energy! KY is all about having an energetic experience. It is important to deliver the teachings correctly to produce expected results. How can we be pure vessels for the teachings if we mess around with the formula? It is specific and proven. It ain’t called a science for nothing!

To give you a bit of background, Kundalini Yoga classes have a specific 6-part teaching structure to follow, as outlined below.

  1. Tune in with the Adi Mantra
  2. Pranayam (breath work) and/or appropriate warm-up
  3. The Kriya (the exercise set)
  4. Relaxation
  5. Meditation
  6. Ending prayer and Long Sat Naams

Within this teaching structure is a critical piece involving the third point, the Kriya. The critical piece is not to omit or alter the Kriya in any way other than duration.

That means that we teach the exact sequence of exercises in each set. We do not change the order or add or subtract poses. Kundalini Yoga is a science to bring a specific outcome. Don’t mess with what works.

Another important point to acknowledge is that we really are honor-bound to maintain the integrity and sacredness of the Kundalini Yoga Teachings, especially now that Yogi Bhajan has passed on. It is the legacy of every teacher to preserve the purity of the teachings.

The system and techniques are proven to work. Period. Why be so arrogant as to think that you should change them? Can you do any better than perfection? Yogi Bhajan tells us, “It is a three-thousand-year-old proven path – it’s not going to stop.” So stick with the program…because it works. The only way you’ll reach Infinity is to give yourself the capacity to experience the teachings as they were meant to be taught.

Small Business Marketing Strategy – A Blink Lesson Part 5

This is Article five of six in a series of lessons for small business marketers from Malcolm Gladwell's Blink .

Wow, what a great chapter for marketers Chapter Five in Blink is. This quote on p. 160 outlines the thoughts a great marketer (Louis Cheskin) had on packaging: "Cheskin was convinced that when people give an assessment of something they might buy in a supermarket or a department store, without realizing it, they transfer sensations or impressions that they have about the packaging of the product to the product itself. To put it another way, Cheskin believed that most of us don't make a distinction – on an unconscious level – between the package and the product. The product is the package and the product combined. "

A key concept in this chapter is that experts are often more reliable at identifying what will work – or won't – in the marketplace than market research based on consumer surveys. For small business marketers, then, this chapter is a must-read. You know full-well you rarely have the money for consumer surveys.

Gladwell explores the New Coke debacle and the incompleteness of the market research that led up to it. Although this is a well-known marketing mistake, Gladwell supplies his typical journalistic behind-the-scenes story, and clues us in on why the marketing information that Coke marketers used to base their decision on was flawed to begin with.

Even more fascinating is his exploration of the musician named Kenna, a person music experts agree should be a smash, but can't get Top 40 airtime on radio because market research can't capture the same information the experts see in a Blink.

Why? Because as Gladwell points out, the "… first impressions of experts are different … more esoteric and complex." (p. 179). Kenna's music is different and hard to put a specific label on, so the music market research can't adequately measure him.

Gladwell also relates the story of the Aeron chair – a new product with a completely innovative look that even experts said would fail. But with this chair, which looked so different, people did not know how they themselves felt about it; Gladwell says consumers "misinterpreted their own feelings" (p. 173). Market research indicated the chair would fail, but it did, because it was a great product.

What's this chapter mean for the small business owner? Two lessons.

For one, we need to understand the limits of market research. This method is not fool-proof nor will it guarantee market success or prevent market failure.

Second, the small business owner should learn to recognize in just what areas she is expert and in what subjects she is not. In areas where you know you are an expert – where your years of experience have taught you well and you can now realize something in a blink about your industry or your industry as it relates to your customers-well on those topics it's a safe bet that you really are an expert.

However, a key pitfall is to then think you are expert in all areas of your business. You aren't, and even your customers aren't. They are super-savvy purchasers, but they, too, are not always aware of why they do what they do … so, where possible, study what they do, and then find out ways to alter that behavior in your favor.

Remember: Brand (who you are) + Package (your Face to the Customer) + People (customers and employees) = Marketing Success.

Why Investing Is Important

Investing has become increasingly important over the years, as the future of social security benefits becomes unknown.

People want to insure their futures, and they know that if they are depending on Social Security benefits, and in some cases retirement plans, that they may be in for a rude awakening when they no longer have the ability to earn a steady income. Investing is the answer to the unknowns of the future.

You may have been saving money in a low interest savings account over the years. Now, you want to see that money grow at a faster pace. Perhaps you’ve inherited money or realized some other type of windfall, and you need a way to make that money grow. Again, investing is the answer.

Investing is also a way of attaining the things that you want, such as a new home, a college education for your children, or expensive ‘toys.’ Of course, your financial goals will determine what type of investing you do.

If you want or need to make a lot of money fast, you would be more interested in higher risk investing, which will give you a larger return in a shorter amount of time. If you are saving for something in the far off future, such as retirement, you would want to make safer investments that grow over a longer period of time.

The overall purpose in investing is to create wealth and security, over a period of time. It is important to remember that you will not always be able to earn an income… you will eventually want to retire.

You also cannot count on the social security system to do what you expect it to do. As we have seen with Enron, you also cannot necessarily depend on your company’s retirement plan either. So, again, investing is the key to insuring your own financial future, but you must make smart investments!

Many people like to rely on 401K plans and other investments to supplement their retirement savings. This is a good practice because Social Security may not exist after the year 2029. It is never to early to start investing in Stocks and Bonds on your own. It is, however, very important to talk to a qualified Financial Advisor before you spend any money investing.

So contact a Financial Advisor such as a qualified Stock Broker and discuss your financial future with them.

How Does the Muscular System Work In Conjunction With The Immune System?

The muscles connect the bones of the skeletal system and it is one of their main functions. As the muscles contract they move the bones. However, muscles also have other minor functions which are not that well-known. They help in increasing the body fluids, like blood and lymph. The muscular system also helps to improve the immunity in the body.

The immune system is one of the most complex and diverse systems in the human body. It protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. It works with the white blood cells, and the organs that produce it. In a book entitled “Anatomy and Physiology,” authored by Dr. Gary Thibodeau, it is mentioned that lymph nodes play a very important role in the immune system. The blood passes through spleen, which is a warehouse of cells. The lymph nodes filter the lymphatic fluid and contain immune cells.

Lymphatic fluid is light yellow in color, is the liquid in our blood. The main consistency for the fluid comes from dissolved sugars and salts. It does not contain proteins or cells required by the body. Lymphatic fluid is formed when the blood vessels leak fluids into the blood stream. The lymphatic nodes filter this fluid. Then it is sent back into the capillaries. The fluid that does not enter into the capillaries is sent back into the lymphatic system.

One of the main problems with blood circulation is the wrong posture that most people sit in. The heart is located at the upper portion of the body. The blood that is returning to the heart has to flow upwards against gravity. The capillaries create pressure and push the blood upwards. The lymphatic fluid too has to go through the same system of circulation. The muscular system plays a very valuable role in sending these fluids upwards. They squeeze the lymph upwards so that the fluid is kept circulating and the lymphatic system functions efficiently.

Lymphatic flow of fluids is very important for circulation and immune system. It helps the fluid travel throughout the body. The lymphatic fluid re-enters the blood through the lymphatic nodes and here it is checked for immune cells and possible bacteria or viruses. If lymphatic nodes are not functioning properly, they decrease the immunity of a person, making him/her more susceptible to illnesses. Lymph also plays an important role in circulation because if it did not return the blood, the volume of blood in the body will be affected.

Java for a Great Career

About JAVA

Java is an object-oriented computer programming language released by Sun Microsystems IN 1995. Mobile phones to scientific supercomputers, most of the devices employ the usage of Java applications. Java programming derives most of its syntax from C and C++. It is one of the fastest, simplest and reliable platforms as it is one of the most widely used programming languages due to its simplified coding and dynamic functioning.

Variety of certification courses are available for various IT professionals who aspire to gain expertise in Java development and programming. Java programming has 50 JVM languages. A complete java training program incorporates practical knowledge and hands-on experience of object-oriented concepts. Apart from this, there are many other topics covered in the course. The course would ask for some prerequisites in the trainee i.e. for instance, as a learner one is expected to have worked on a programming language (C/C++); basic concepts of HTML, database, and SQL syntax etc. The salary and perks offered to a Java developer is an added advantage which in turn add to brighter career scenarios.

How does Java work?

A Java application is compiled to Java bytecode which is the instruction set for Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

Java compiler does not translate Java codes directly to machine code instead it first translates the Java program to BYTECODE which is essentially an object file for a virtual machine that uses the extension.class This byte-code is created for a virtual platform known as the Java Virtual Machine or JVM.

The bytecode verifier in the JVM then checks the bytecode after which the JVM converts the bytecode to a machine-friendly code. To be more specific it is the Just In Time (JIT) compiler of the JVM which is responsible for this conversion. It also keeps the track of the frequently repeated byte-codes so as not to repeat the compilation of same codes again and again.

This is how Java functions. As the JVM converts the bytecode to a machine specific code, therefore we have different JVMs for different Java platforms because JVMs are not platform independent, the platform independence that Java shows is a layer of abstraction, under which dependence on the platform actually exists.

Some advantages of JAVA:

It is an open source programming language, so does not require heavy license fees each year.

It is Platform independent.

Java API’s can easily be accessed by the Java developers.

Java always allocates the objects on the stack.

Java embraces the concept of exception and specifications.

Incorporated with multi-platform support language as well as web-services support.

Promotes the development of dynamic web applications.

Java programming allows the creation of modular programs and reusable codes.

Enables secure and high-performance software development.

Instagram Tips: 5 Unmissable Techniques To Get Massive Likes On Instagram

Using popular hashtags

Hashtags provide a good way to get likes on Instagram for your photos. Hashtags can be based on the subject matter, the style of photography or processing, Instagram filters, location or your apps. You can also choose from one of the popular tags used frequently, such as #photooftheday, #instagood or #tigers. Explore the hashtags used by other users. If you feel that adding these tags from your phone is difficult, you can post your photo from the phone. Then using Instagram’s web based interface, copy and paste the hashtags from a draft in your email, a saved document or use Tagstagram.

Participate in community activities

Innumerable Instagram activities on mobile social networks provide options for you to participate. One of the biggest community activities is perhaps JJ’s daily forum that was started by Josh Johnson, an Instagram user with nearly 280,000 followers. With thousands of members, his forum has expanded to now include a network of editors working to highlight photos every day. To participate, follow Josh Johnson, find out the daily theme and submit your photos. The themes are generally based on style or content, such as black and white or reflections. Other Instagram communities include Steetphoto bw, Photooftheday, Ampt, EyeEm and many others.

Give and take

The most important element for success at Instagram is engagement, just like any other community or social network. The more you give your time to other members and interact with them the more they would do the same for you. Like others’ photos and leave thoughtful comments to catch their attention. Paying more attention to photos by people outside your immediate group of friends will get you more likes and followers. In turn, their friends will notice you and your network will expand faster. Be selective about the photos you like, since it pays to engage with Instagrammers interested in similar kinds to photography.

Be creative with photo-editing

You might want to try Instagram’s filters, but don’t stop there. Although they are amazing, there are unlimited options with Android and iOS apps for enthusiastic mobile photographers. Use Adobe Photoshop Express or Snapseed for photo-editing, or PicCollage or Fuzel, creative apps that let you generate striking collages. Create your signature style and add your mark to your photos. Once you establish your distinctive niche or style, you will get noticed more easily and soon build a substantial following.

Get featured by Instagram

While getting featured by Instagram is rather difficult, this could get you thousands of followers in a day. Instagram has not disclosed its policy or criteria for choosing users for their suggested users’ list. If you do get selected, you would stay on for one week, giving you the greatest possible exposure on the social network. If you don’t know about the suggested users’ list, you can check it out in settings-find and invite friends-suggested users. The list varies immensely and you could feature on it for an interesting perspective, a unique style or for your niche.

Moto G3: Great Phone, Shame About That Back

Motorola has just revved its lineup of smartphones for the third time in as many years. A lot has happened in the past year for Motorola. The company has gone from being one of the biggest names in mobile phones to being owned by Google and has now been sold to Chinese computer maker, Lenovo. The phones don’t seemed to have suffered though and the Moto G3 is a great update to probably the best selling product from Motorola in recent years. Lenovo has a record of buying great brands and not tampering with them. They have done nothing to hurt the IBM personal computing brand since acquiring it a few years ago and their ownership of Motorola has not hindered the phone maker from improving its smartphone lineup for 2015.

With the Moto G3, Motorola has once again kept what worked and made changes necessary to quell critics and bring the phone up to date for 2015. All this while maintaining the midrange price point that as made the Moto G a best seller around the world. In some countries you can even get Moto G3 cases as well as the metallic strip on the rear pf the phone, in a range of colours, at no extra cost. In the rest of the world though, white and black are your only choice and you will have to go with aftermarket Moto G3 cases if you want a little customisation.

If you get one of these aftermarket G3 cases you will have a phone that is very well protected not only from bumps, drops and scratches, thanks to the Gorilla Glass on the front of the phone, you will also have a waterproof phone. One of the big new feature additions to the Moto G for 2015 is the IPX7 rating. This means that the G3 can withstand immersions in water up to a foot deep for up to half an hour, without biting the dust. While all Motorola phones have always had great splash resistance thanks to a nano coating that the company applies to the internals of the devices, the IPX7 rating means that you can get pushed into a pool with the phone in your pocket or drop it into a basin and still have a phone that works.

Water resistance and coloured Moto G3 cases aren’t all that’s new for 2015 though. The new version of the G also gets much better cameras, both at the front and the back. The front shooter gets upgraded to 5 Megapixels and the rear camera goes all the way to 13 Megapixels this time around. This gives both cameras the ability to shoot full 1080p video, another first for the G. The G3 also gets a much better dual tone flash at the rear which should make for much nicer photos in the dark. These updates along with slightly beefed up internals and an almost stock version of Android Lollipop should mean that the Moto G remains one of the best sellers, not only in its price bracket but across all Android phones.

Motivation Theory

The word motivation is coined from the Latin word “movere”, which means to move. Motivation is defined as an internal drive that activates behavior and gives it direction. The term motivation theory is concerned with the processes that describe why and how human behavior is activated and directed. It is regarded as one of the most important areas of study in the field of organizational behavior. There are two different categories of motivation theories such as content theories, and process theories. Even though there are different motivation theories, none of them are universally accepted.

Also known as need theory, the content theory of motivation mainly focuses on the internal factors that energize and direct human behavior. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Alderfer’s ERG theory, Herzeberg’s motivator-hygiene theory (Herzeberg’s dual factors theory), and McClelland’s learned needs or three-needs theory are some of the major content theories.

Of the different types of content theories, the most famous content theory is Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs. Maslow introduced five levels of basic needs through his theory. Basic needs are categorized as physiological needs, safety and security needs, needs of love, needs for self esteem and needs for self-actualization.

Just like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, ERG theory explains existence, relatedness, and growth needs. Through dual factors theory, Herzeberg describes certain factors in the workplace which result in job satisfaction. McClelland’s learned needs or three-needs theory uses a projective technique called the Thematic Aptitude Test (TAT) so as to evaluate people based on three needs: power, achievement, and affiliation. People with high need of power take action in a way that influences the other’s behavior.

Another type of motivation theory is process theory. Process theories of motivation provide an opportunity to understand thought processes that influence behavior. The major process theories of motivation include Adams’ equity theory, Vroom’s expectancy theory, goal-setting theory, and reinforcement theory. Expectancy, instrumentality, and valence are the key concepts explained in the expectancy theory. Goal setting theory suggests that the individuals are motivated to reach set goals. It also requires that the set goals should be specific. Reinforcement theory is concerned with controlling behavior by manipulating its consequences.
